Doce Desafio - Aplicativo para Controle e Monitorização do Diabetes Tipo 1 em Dispositivos Móveis

Type 1 diabetes is a disease mainly caused by the lack of insulin production in pancreas, causing an exceeded increase of the blood sugar level. In these cases, the regulation of sugar levels must be realized by insulin injections. Therefore, treat this disease is something that requires continuous and careful monitoring, once it must replace an action that is usually measured by the owner’s organism. Under this scenario, this work purposes an application to mobile devices that helps both health professionals that act in the treatment of the disease, and its patients. For implementation, we opted for the Android operational system in order to ensure more portability to the application, called Doce Desafio, once it is supported by low cost devices and it’s available in several brands and models. The application allows the user to inform diabetes monitoring relevant data, such as the measure of blood sugar level, the amount of insulin used in each application, the physical activities performed and the meals of the patient’s diet; besides, it has a mechanism that suggests the amount of corrective insulin that must be managed before or after each meal. Tests were carried out with type 1 diabetic patients, endocrinologists, nutritionists and professionals in physical education. Results showed that software meets the main needs of both patient and his multiprofessional team.
