Improving Cross-border Educational Services with eIDAS
The eIDAS regulation and the technical infrastructure for its implementation enable secure cross-border electronic transactions between businesses, organizations, citizens and public authorities in a wide variety of fields, including in the field of e-education. This article shows how we can improve the reliability of the identification of foreign students, for example the students on the Erasmus+ exchange, while at the same time reduce the administrative burden of higher education institutions in dealing with such students. On the other hand, the students can use their national identification means for accessing the services, and the required information about them-selves can be transmitted electronically from reliable sources. Several improvements to existing procedures and services are proposed in the paper, including three upgraded cross-border e-services based on electronic identities and trusted sources of academic information.
