Flow Monitoring System for IoT Networks

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a model that integrates physical objects and Internet and became one of the principal technological evolutions of computing. It is estimated that a trillion of physical objects will be connected to the Internet until 2022. The lack of interoperability and the low accessibility of many of these devices in a vast heterogenous landscape will make it very hard to design specific monitor, manage and security measures and apply specific mechanism. Moreover, monitoring IoT networks still needed to help network administrators to determine the behavior of a network and the status of its components. Reporting, performance analysis, and anomaly detection also depend on monitoring for decision making. Flow monitoring has become a dominant method for monitoring traffic in high-speed networks. By doing analysis of flows, rather than packets, it is often said to be more scalable than traditional packet-based traffic analysis. In this paper, we present a workflow for flow monitoring on IoT networks considering all important aspects of this type of monitoring solution and it´s applicability in this type of network.
