A Taxonomy of Software Maintainability Metrics

Software maintainability prediction has achieved more attention in the last decade. For this context, several studies explore the relationship between metrics and maintainability of a software. In fact, these metrics can be used to provide directions and recommendations for researchers to improve the maintainability of a software. This paper proposes a taxonomy of maintainability metrics since they are not classified or grouped in a logical way. In addition, this paper aims to provide a taxonomy of these metrics according to three levels. This taxonomy can be used, among others, to help researchers in deciding which metrics are best suited to build a maintainability model.
