Use of the Lean Methodology to Reduce Truck Repair Time: A Case Study

The transportation of cargo by road constitutes a relevant industry within the national economy because it is the vehicle that mudas the productive activity of the country. However, as a consequence of inadequate management and improperly performed maintenance work, a greater number of hours is required for the repair of trucks. This work aims to improve truck repair times by applying Lean methodology. The research methodology involves the selection of 16 trucks consid-ered part of the problem, the identification of the most frequent failures of these trucks, and the causes associated with these failures, defining a set of 23 countermeasures to eliminate or reduce the effects of the failures. To carry out these actions, a Gantt chart and a schedule of activities are prepared to monitor compli-ance. Based on the development of this proposal, it is expected that operability of the truck fleet will increase by 20% in order to improve customer satisfaction. Therefore, it is necessary to review periodically during the year to make the nec-essary adjustments
