Integration and Medication in hospitals

In this paper we challenge the predominant technical focus on integration in healthcare. We suggest that organisational and social factors have been overlooked in many integration efforts. Based on a work practice perspective, a principal aim of our paper is therefore to contribute to the development of a so-cio-technical understanding and a robust implementation strategy of integration in health care. We analyse how clinical practice and the history of existing sys-tems play a crucial role in integration efforts. Empirically our project draws on the implementation and integration of a large-scale Electronic Medication Man-agement System (EMMS) in the Health Authority Northern Norway, which was initiated in 2012.
